Occasionally, here at Profound Living we'll post essays from other sites, most often from our sister site, The
Profound Bartender. Knowing that I was going to post an essay originally published there titled Dirty
Underwear
, I went to my "free photos" and searched for - you guessed it - dirty underwear. I figured I'd see clothes baskets filled with socks, but the photos that popped up were all NSFW (Not Suitable For This Site).
Oh my.
So I did a search for 'boxers'.
Sigh....
So I went with these two.
To me, the most profound issue facing our world and all that lives upon it is global warming. The threat of species extinction, including the human race, grows larger with each passing day. Right now we can do something about it, so our grandkids and their kids don't have to suffer, but soon it may be too late and it will be out of our hands.
So I've been writing various posts about the beauty of the earth, how important nature is, how sad some of our favorite animal species are becoming extinct, and lah de dah, lah de dah - which is motherhood and apple pie it seems because we - whoever you want to call "we" - are just going nowhere fast. The situation, like a sinkhole below crumbling concrete, doesn't appear dangerous. But it is mortally so.
So I wrote some lyrics called And
The Mountains Will Be Barren
, wrote a post about it and put it up. Then I re-purposed the lyrics, and read part of them .
I'm not a lyricist by trade so I don't claim much here except a deep resolve to continue laying this out for folks to consider. That's what I've decided I can do best to help here.
If you get a chance please take a couple of minutes to read or listen to the poem.
Then ask yourself what the best thing would be that you
can do to help get this country and its leaders off the sidelines and in the game to save our quality of life, and doubtless human life as well.
