Occasionally I'll post pieces which I or others have posted in other places, which I hope you will find engaging or useful. This is an essay I wrote for the blog my brother David and I write, called The Profound Bartender . It was published there May 21, 2018.

In many ways, though it is certainly not true throughout the world or even throughout the country, we in the United States are riding a wave of economic prosperity. We have access to beautiful national parks and a gorgeous environment. As I write in this blog, the hardest times to lead - our lives, our companies, our countries, protecting our climate and environment - may be during the so-called "good times". Perhaps this essay can put these "good times" into some context.

Each of us faces adversity in our lives. How will we respond to it? I offer five ideas here, and I bet you can think of more.

Earth Day is this week. As we consider the state of our world - and the ecology of both our material and spiritual environment - it makes sense to ask what our role is, has been, and is supposed to be in relationship to "our common home" (Pope Francis).
