Taking A Moment

Moving the Buddha

To cut the weeds grown ‘round him

Now St. Francis clipped

In our backyard

There is a fairy

with wings

a statue of Saint Francis

with a bird on his shoulder

another holding a bowl forward

and two of Buddha one

laughing, one

meditating

three birds, no one,

no two now silently

flit about and eat

from a feeder

wind slices around

leaves, slowing

moving, and the breeze

touches

my skin

sun rises higher

captured by the tree shade

its rays

a dog comes by

to have her back scratched

my phone rings

ignored, the

day continues.

To see a world in a grain of sand

And a heaven in a wild flower,

Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,

and eternity in an hour.

~William Blake

Earth Day is this week. As we consider the state of our world - and the ecology of both our material and spiritual environment - it makes sense to ask what our role is, has been, and is supposed to be in relationship to "our common home" (Pope Francis).

Here are some initial thoughts about elegance, nature, and depth; a poem about happiness; and even a haiku.
