Gratitude Backatcha Series - VII

Grateful Living. Michael Kroth. Profound Living

Yesterday I had the pleasure of facilitating a gratitude journaling workshop at the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference for our church. When I was much younger I served as a delegate from First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque for several years (I have often said that everything I learned about politics I learned in church…) but this was the first one I had been to in many years.

I thoroughly enjoy preparing for workshops. I usually offer to give workshops on topics I want to learn more about personally, and so this is the third “grateful living” workshop I’ve given in the last year. They are very rewarding and I learn much more getting ready for them and sharing them than if I were a workshop participant.

This, and several other workshops, was the very last thing on the conference agenda. I particularly valued the ten or so hardy individuals who stayed for the workshop instead of fleeing to the beautiful Boise day or heading for home somewhere in the two-state region. Despite some early technical problems (the technology is seldom the problem though is it – usually we are talking about operator error….), we had great participation and an enjoyable two hours.

I promised the group that I would provide a copy of the overheads electronically, so I figured I might as well share them here for everyone. I have taken out just a few things, like videos.

We spent a good chunk of time on the topic of unearned gifts and the argument for gratitude , which these overheads mostly miss.

It was a wonderful morning, and I felt fortunate to be asked to do this and to meet these wonderful people

Here is a link to my workshop overheads. Please feel free to share them with anyone who can use them:

If “expensive” were one of the principal attributes of what it means to be elegant then most of the world could never experience elegance. But anyone can, it turns out.

Earth Day is this week. As we consider the state of our world - and the ecology of both our material and spiritual environment - it makes sense to ask what our role is, has been, and is supposed to be in relationship to "our common home" (Pope Francis).
