Sunrise

Here's one of my favorite sunrise pictures. Psalms 118:24 comes to mind: "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." It's a great way to greet every day - with gratitude, thanks and joy.

Curator's Note: When Marc sent this to me I knew I loved it for two reasons.  The first, most obvious, reason is the gorgeous image you see here.  How can a person look at this and not be overwhelmed with the beauty of our world? Second, I loved what he had to say about it.  In particular, the verse, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it", is something I say often on my daily walks.  Not every day, but regularly, as I marvel in something as small as a ladybug or as vast as the sky.

"Let us rejoice," indeed.

Earth Day is this week. As we consider the state of our world - and the ecology of both our material and spiritual environment - it makes sense to ask what our role is, has been, and is supposed to be in relationship to "our common home" (Pope Francis).

Life is messy. We know that. But some people move through that mess with a surprising kind of grace.

“The poor in spirit are by no means poor-spirited. They are persons who see so much to be, so much to do, such limitless reaches to life and goodness that they are profoundly conscious of their insufficiency and incompleteness.” ~Rufus Jones, The Inner Life , p. 19
