Tree Hugging

It has become a practice to hug a tree when I walk

"Some habits... matter more than others in re-making businesses and lives. These are 'keystone habits,' and they can influence how people work, eat, play, live, spend, and communicate. Keystone habits start a process that, over time, transforms everything."

     - Charles Duhigg, The Power of Habit, p. 100

"Keystone" Habits

When I take my daily walks it has become a practice to choose a tree to hug. I thank the tree for all it gives to all. Hugging a tree re-grounds me to our natural world, connects me to something living, gives me a feeling of gratitude, and reminds me of what is important.

Yesterday, I decided that this tree needed a hug from me, it was calling to me…

…or maybe I needed a hug from this tree and the path led me to it..

Tree hugging is a generative practice for me. What habits or practices are life giving and life changing for you?

Tree hugging. My friend Kevin Laughlin taught me this generative practice several years ago.
