Introducing Antonia "TJ" Cardella
by Michael Kroth

Antonia "TJ" Cardella is a good friend, one of my favorite artists, and she has agreed to be a regular contributor to our Profound Pictures series.I have two of her Two Fine Ladies books and one of her coloring books and I love them and her art.

I first met TJ in the Albuquerque musical theater community many years ago. She is a talented actor with a beautiful voice. More, she is a wonderful person.

Even more, It seems that my favorite friends are often the ones who have taught me the most and TJ, who comes from a pagan spiritual tradition which I knew nothing about, was kind enough to give me some of the basics and I was fascinated. A lifelong United Methodist, I'm unlikely to switch to paganism (or Catholicism or Judaism or Sufism or Buddhism or any of the spiritual traditions I have found so enriching), but what little I know about it is another door to the profound, another path to see some more of the wonder and mystery of our natural and supernatural world than I had before. I don't know much about religion, but I know a fair amount about myself and I can say with assurance that looking widely has helped me to go much more deeply into my own Christianity, and guides like TJ who I trust and respect have been so helpful along the way. Others may have different experiences and perspectives, of course, which will work best for them. Mine is a winding path.

I'm sure you'll learn more about TJ over time, but in the meantime enjoy "Waiting".

"Waiting"
by Antonia "TJ" Cardella

“Waiting” shows a witch with her cat and crow, looking out the window. The profound element for me is that, no matter one’s age or circumstances, it’s possible to be excited about what’s coming next.

If “expensive” were one of the principal attributes of what it means to be elegant then most of the world could never experience elegance. But anyone can, it turns out.

Earth Day is this week. As we consider the state of our world - and the ecology of both our material and spiritual environment - it makes sense to ask what our role is, has been, and is supposed to be in relationship to "our common home" (Pope Francis).
