What Reflection Am I Making?

In The Eye Of The Beholder

Sometimes it is not until later that we realize what we have done or what has happened. Broken trees strewn about and leaves scattered wait for us to emerge from our tornado shelter. Or t he implications of our actions come back to face us surprisingly and directly. An act of kindness reverberates years later in a young person's mind, who returns the kindness elsewhere. Or a harsh word, long forgotten, lives and ferments in another person's memory.

Or, perhaps, others see us in ways we never have seen ourselves.

Here Marc, the consummate photographer, finds his reflection later in the eye of a horse he had captured on his camera. It causes him to wonder about how our perceptions compare to others' perceptions.

What Reflection Am I Making?

The horse eye has my reflection in it. I was actually surprised to see this when I processed the picture and it causes me to think about what others are seeing as I'm seeing them. What reflection am I making in their eyes?

“The poor in spirit are by no means poor-spirited. They are persons who see so much to be, so much to do, such limitless reaches to life and goodness that they are profoundly conscious of their insufficiency and incompleteness.” ~Rufus Jones, The Inner Life , p. 19
