Golden Dawn on the Rio Grande

"In the desert southwest, the river is a life giving source for farmers and residents."

This one I have entitled this "Golden Dawn on the Rio Grande." In the desert southwest, the river is a life giving source for farmers and residents. The river is often entitled "The Rio Sand" as it goes dry for months at a time. During the summer irrigation season, New Mexico sends water down from reservoirs to irrigate both in southern New Mexico and Texas. As one can imagine, there are constant disputes about the amount being distributed. Mexico must receive her fair share as well. On an early morning walk, I captured this sunrise reflecting off the water in the rio. A brilliant morning like this shouts the magnificence of God's creations.

Earth Day is this week. As we consider the state of our world - and the ecology of both our material and spiritual environment - it makes sense to ask what our role is, has been, and is supposed to be in relationship to "our common home" (Pope Francis).

“The poor in spirit are by no means poor-spirited. They are persons who see so much to be, so much to do, such limitless reaches to life and goodness that they are profoundly conscious of their insufficiency and incompleteness.” ~Rufus Jones, The Inner Life , p. 19
